Carr Head Primary

Our mission statement is to prepare the children of today to flourish in the world of tomorrow through nurturing mind, body and soul.

SEND

The school’s Mission Statement and Aims underpin our commitment to the learning support for all children. We value the abilities and the achievements of all our pupils. We are committed to providing the best learning environment for each pupil. Our aim is to promote development in understanding and social maturity alongside peers whenever possible. We use the “Friendship Room” to nurture children, when needed in this way.

All children’s progress is regularly assessed and we follow the normal curriculum with appropriate reinforcement activities, resources and support when required. Parents are regularly informed of their child’s progress and encouraged to play an active part in the Home / School Partnership. Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator ensures that pupils’ needs are identified through the school’s monitoring and assessment process. If required, an individual education programme is drawn up in liaison with the class teacher to provide SEN Support.

Occasionally school cannot provide the necessary facilities for a particular child and outside support and help is sought. In line with the SEND 2014 Code of Conduct Reforms this may result in the child receiving an Education Health Care Plan (EHC). At all stages parents are consulted and kept informed. Specialist help from external support services and agencies are available to advise staff and parents. Teaching assistants may also work with class teachers to support children in their learning.

The school building has ease of access for wheel chairs including a lift. Changing facilities and a disabled toilet are available as part of the school's accessibility plan.

In accordance with the SEND Reforms 2014, information regarding how Carr Head supports children and young people with SEN can be found in our Local Offer. If you wish to comment on our Local Offer please use the form on the Contact Us page.
