Class News

Friday 14th December:

Well done to all the children for the flute performance they gave to Year 2 on Wednesday afternoon. You have worked really hard on your flute playing this term and have made great progress. Next term, we will be performing to parents.

Friday 5th October:

The weeks are certainly flying by in Year 4. The children wrote some excellent stories at the end of their unit based on the Firework Maker's Daughter. I really enjoyed reading them. We are now working on explanations.

In Maths we continue to use our addition and subtraction skills in a range of contexts. This last week we have been adding and subtraction money and will move onto problem solving involving money next week. Towards the end of the week we will move onto looking at angles. In terms of times tables, there have been some great improvements in terms of scores over the last 3 weeks. Rapid recall is what we are aiming for hence why the children only have two and a half minutes to complete their test.

The children are making good progress in their flute lessons. This week they were trying to blow a B note. I know Mrs Wood finds it hard to select musicians of the week as they are all doing so well.

In our science, we were looking at the different groups of invertebrates and went to look for some in the school grounds. Ask the children what they found.

Please remember  - your child needs to be reading every night and their reading book needs to be in school every day.

Friday 21st September.

End of week 3 already! Time flies when you are having fun!! It has been another good week in Year 4. The highlight for some was having their first music lesson with Mrs Wood on Wednesday afternoon. Flutes will come home later in the term. Mrs Wood will pick 2 musicians of the week. To gain this award the children need to show excellent behaviour for learning throughout the session and participate fully in all activities.

We have started working on written methods of addition and subtraction in Maths. If you would like to help your child with these, please refer to the written calculations policy on the website. This will enable you to reinforce the work we do in class.

In English, we finished The Firework Maker's Daughter. Ask your child to give you a brief summary of what happened in the story. We move onto planning and writing our own stories this week.

Well done to all those children who scored 10 out of 10 on their spellings this week. The challenge now is to maintain that standard in future tests. For those children who did not get them all right - keep practising and aim to improve your score by at least one in the next test.

Keep up the great start Year 4!!

Mrs Woodhouse.

Thursday 13th September.

We are coming to the end of another busy week. There was great excitement today when the new spelling and times tables books were given out!! Hopefully the children have explained what they need to do with them. I will give a brief explanation at the Meet the teacher evening on Monday. Hope you can make it.

In Maths the children have continued to develop their understanding of place value - we have extended it to decimals this week.

We are all enjoying The Firework Maker's Daughter in English. We will be using the story as a basis for our own writing.

The children are designing pizzas in D.T. with Mrs Hughes. I think I will appoint myself as chief taster when they come to make them!!

Another great week in Y4.

Friday 7th September:

The end of a great first week back. The children have settled down really quickly. They are being great role models by the way they conduct themselves around school. The challenge now is to continue this all the way through the year.

I am aware that some parents are having a few issues with classdojo. I am trying to solve this as quickly as possible. Please let me know via email if you are having difficulties. Many thanks.

The first homework of the term will be set this coming week.

Wednesday 5th September:

The children have made an excellent start to the year. I am sure they will rise to the challenge and continue to maintain the high standards they have set.

Keep checking back for regular updates on what we have been doing each week.

Here's to a great year.
