Year 5

Hello and welcome back to all parents and pupils of Year 5. I hope you’ve all had a fantastic holiday and that the children are raring to go for another exciting term at Carr Head.

This newsletter will give you a little more detail about day to day routines and the curriculum in Year 5.

Mrs Lupton and Mr Coultas will be providing teaching support in Year 5 and will be working with children of all abilities to maintain the high standards that are expected of upper juniors.

Day to day:

The children can bring a named water bottle each day. These are kept just outside the classroom. The children can take them out with them at break times. Your child may bring in a healthy snack for morning break-time.

Please ensure your child’s PE kit is kept in school in a named Carr Head PE bag. The ‘Run a Mile’ challenge will happen throughout the week and your child will need appropriate black or white trainers in school each day.

Your child will need to have their reading book in school every day. We will change these when we feel they are able to read it fluently and show a good level of understanding. Guided Reading will be taking place daily.

Best Wishes,

Miss Williams

Spelling Shed Login

As part of our school review of spelling, we have introduced Spelling Shed into school.  Spelling Shed is a spelling platform designed by a team of Primary School teachers. It is built with primary school students, teachers and parents in mind and aims to make spelling fun for students as well as simple for teachers to manage. It is our intention to use the platform to develop children’s spelling and this will include the children’s spelling homework.  Your child’s teacher will set up weekly ‘assignments’ that will be available for children to complete when they log in.  They can access the assignments as often as needed.

Each child’s log in details will be stuck into their Reading Record.  We would be grateful if you would encourage your child to log onto the platform on a regular basis in order to practise their spellings and complete their spelling homework.  If your child is unable to log on to the platform, spelling homework will continue to be sent home in a paper version.   There will be opportunity for children to access the platform in school but homework (paper or online) does need to be completed.  With spelling, it really is a case of ‘practise makes perfect’.  There are three types of games that your child can access on the platform:
