Welcome to Carr Head Primary School!

If your child is due to start Reception class in September 2026 and you would like a tour of our school, we will be holding our Open Day on Thursday 23rd October.

There are three sessions for you to choose from:

9.30am to 10.30am,  1.30pm to 2.30pm, or 5pm to 6pm.

If you are not able to attend the Open Day, we will be showing parents around on Thursdays in October and November. You are of course very welcome to bring your child with you for the tour, if you so wish. Please call 01253 883558 to book a slot.


Applications for starting school next September are now open.

  • 15 January 2026 for primary schools
  • 31 October 2025 for secondary schools

There are lots of things you can do to help prepare your child for starting school.

Your Child’s Health

If your child has asthma, we will need a named inhaler and spacer (if required) to be left in school at all times. Please order spares of each now so you have it in time for your child starting school.  We will also need instructions from the doctor about dosage. This will either be on the named label on the inhaler box, or on your child’s asthma plan. If you child does not already have a plan please print the attached and complete it with the doctor/asthma nurse the next time your child has an appointment. Bring the completed form into school and we will keep a copy to help support your child in school.

If your child has an allergy, it is very important that school are aware.  If your child develops an allergy, please inform school immediately.

If your child requires medication for their allergy, we will need this to be kept in school. at all times. Please order/buy spare medication now, so you have have it in time for your child starting school.

If your child has an Epi-pen, please contact school direct so we can discuss this further,.

We are lucky to have an amazingly supportive PTFA group within school comprising of Mums, Dads, Carers, Grandparents and teachers. A lovely friendly group who are fab to work with. We will advertise details of PTFA meetings and also, obviously any events they are organising.

Meals

All children in KS1 infants are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal (UFSM) as part of a government initiative.

All food is cooked on site. Carr Head is a ‘Fresher Plus’ school which means that most meat is fresh (not frozen), and pizza products/dough etc are handmade from scratch by our cook. Please see menu link below.

If you are in receipt of one of the following you may be entitle to additional benefits such as free milk etc. Please contact school to find out more.

  • Universal Credit with a household income of less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
  • Income-Based Jobseekers’ Allowance
  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, not entitled to Working Tax Credit and household income less than £16,190
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run on’ – the payment you receive for a further four weeks after you finish work

Milk

Milk is provided by a private company and delivered to school. It is free to children under the age of 5, and for those entitled to Free School Meals (income/benefit dependent). If you wish your child to have milk, please register now with Coolmilk at https://www.coolmilk.com/parents/

We have a Crossing Patrol outside school. Please read the attached safety leaflet with your child so they can learn the safest way to cross the road.
